Only 6% of Bulgarians lead a healthy lifestyle, according to a sociological survey conducted by the Research Center Trend, commissioned by the Health Metrics company.

42% of respondents say they "rather" lead a healthy lifestyle, while 35% say they "rather do not". 14% of respondents are categorical that they do not lead a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle is more characteristic of the youngest group (18–29), university graduates, people with higher incomes and residents of the capital city.

One of the main barriers to leading a healthy lifestyle appears to be financial constraints. Almost half of Bulgarians (48%) believe that a healthy lifestyle is too expensive. 41% say they have difficulty accessing quality food. These obstacles are even more pronounced in certain age and social groups, including young people with low incomes and those living in small settlements.

More than half of respondents (55%) do not exercise at all. Only 15% are actively engaged in sports. The main reasons for the lack of physical activity include age, limited time and lack of motivation.
