On June 16, a Bulgarian scientific expedition that has been in preparation for a decade will set off for Central Asia, writes 24chasa.bg. For two weeks, ancient petroglyphs and the lifestyle of the last surviving true shamans in the Mongolian part of the Altai Mountains will be studied.

The scientists will participate in the largest religious holidays during the summer solstice. The ancient practices will be compared with the traces of the proto-Bulgarian culture in today's Bulgaria, such as the graffiti drawings on the walls of the old capitals of Pliska and Preslav and other archaeological monuments.

The expedition is under the auspices of the Bulgarian branch of the Explorer Club. The leaders are prof. Nikolay Ovcharov and eng. Mladen Stanev, chairman of the Association of Bulgarians around the world. Prof. Plamen Pavlov, prof. Nikolay Kanev and scientists from Mongolia and Tatarstan will participate.
