The Ministry of Transport is planning to buy 20 passenger trains running on biodiesel. They will meet dual-mode requirements as they can also run on ordinary diesel, Deputy PM and Minister of Transport and Communication Grozdan Karadjov told journalists during the Tour d'Europe initiative in support of renewable fuels, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports. Minister Karadjov stated that the use of biodiesel is an excellent opportunity in the conditions of ever stricter environmental standards and can facilitate the transition to zero emission transport. Asked by the BTA whether biodiesel production is more expensive, Grozdan Karadjov stated that its price is no higher than the price of conventional fuel. “For the time being it is not available everywhere,” he said, and went on that the supply of such fuel will depend on demand and that as its use in lorries, buses and trains increases, it will become more readily available and widespread.
