The head of the Sofia Zoo, Dobromir Borislavov, has called for compliance with the law and a responsible attitude towards wildlife. Speaking to BNT, Borislavov pointed out that it was high time to put an end to the unregulated trade in wild animals, in order to guarantee the safety of both people and animals.
The comment comes after four days of searching for a black leopard seen and filmed by local residents in the area of the Shumen Plateau Nature Reserve and the unsuccessful attempts of the responsible institutions to capture it. The case raises a number of questions about the control and care of wild species in this country and shows how important joint work between institutions and society for the protection of nature is, Borislavov said.
