Another protest against the adoption of the euro took place in Sofia and other cities in Bulgaria on June 28. The protest in the capital Sofia blocked traffic in the so-called "triangle of power". The demonstration was organized by the Citizens' Committee for the Protection of the Bulgarian Lev and is supported by Vazrazhdane party, Velichie party,  MECH party and Unyielding Bulgaria.

"Our duty is to start an anti-colonial revolution. Otherwise, Bulgaria will not exist. The salvation of the Bulgarian lev requires the resignation of this government. Resignation! This will be the last peaceful protest if the authorities continue to pretend not to notice us," said one of the organizers, Strahil Angelov, at the beginning of the protest against the introduction of the euro in Sofia.

The protest took place in the space between the buildings of the National Assembly, the Council of Ministers and the Presidency, which is traditionally called the "triangle of power". Movement in the area is restricted due to the event. Then the protesters went into a protest march in the center of Sofia passing by the building of Sofia Municipality and the building of the European Parliament.

A tent camp, which will be called "City of the Lev", is located in front of the Presidency and will remain there until July 8, when the final decision on Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone must be made.

Patriotic and economic motives were cited by the protesters against the introduction of the euro. Many once again advocated the thesis that a referendum in which the voice of the people would be heard should decide whether Bulgaria is ready for the European currency.

The protest organizers called for a boycott of foreign retail chains, a suspension of bank payments and the payment of taxes and fees, and payment only in cash, in order to shake up the system.

"We will do the same thing to the eurozone that the eurozone is currently doing to the Bulgarian lev. We will do everything necessary to destroy the eurozone, because it is a foreign financial system," Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov told the protesters.

The leader of Vazrazhdane party described the process as an "anti-state coup" and "treason", emphasizing that it was "an insult to the right of Bulgarian citizens to be asked and to decide".

According to Kostadinov, the protests represent "the last form of resistance when a democracy is being destroyed". He emphasized that Bulgarian citizens should have the right to vote in decisions of such importance.

Protests against the adoption of the euro took place in other cities and towns in Bulgaria, including Varna, Burgas, Sliven, Yambol, Silistra, Arbanassi.

Due to the protests related to the adoption of the euro, the Sofia Municipality announced that from today until July 8, changes will be introduced in the movement in the center around the European Commission building. The restrictions are related to parking bans and the organization of traffic.
