‘Gundi: A Legend of Love’ hits cinemas in the UK

The film about the legendary Bulgarian footballer Georgi Asparuhov – Gundi became an instant hit in Bulgaria

Following its outstanding success in Bulgaria, the film Gundi: A Legend of Love continues its journey abroad. On Sunday 20 July, it will be shown for the first time in selected Odeon cinemas. Following the premiere, the film will remain in cinemas, giving UK audiences the opportunity to experience one of the most exciting and iconic projects in contemporary Bulgarian cinema. For Bulgarians living abroad, the film also provides an emotional connection to their homeland, according to the team behind ‘Gundi: A Legend of Love.


The story of legendary Bulgarian footballer Georgi Asparuhov, also known as Gundi, as told through the lens of a profound love story, became a phenomenon as soon as it premiered in Bulgaria on 18 October 2024. It is the first film in recent Bulgarian history to sell more than 500,000 tickets in a country of 6.7 million people. It found its place among the top 20 most successful films in Bulgarian cinemas of all time.
