On July 18, Bulgaria marks the 188th anniversary of the birth of Vasil Levski with a series of commemorative events. The main celebrations are taking place in Karlovo, the birthplace of the Apostle of Freedom. Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov will receive the honorary formation of representative units of the Bulgarian Army.
The town of Levski is marking two anniversaries at once- 80 years since it was officially declared a town and 188 years since Vasil Levski’s birth. President Rumen Radev will attend the festivities.
Vice President Iliana Iotova will be in the town of Etropole for the official ceremony to unveil a monument to Vasil Levski.
In Kazanlak, a unique initiative has been organized for the occasion. At 5:00 p.m., the poem "Vasil Levski" by Angelina Zhekova will be recited simultaneously in the town’s major supermarkets, and the public will be invited to join in.
