After years of preparation and research, actual drilling for oil and natural gas is starting in the Bulgarian part of the Black Sea. OMV Petrom, the largest energy producer in Southeast Europe, and NewMed Energy Balkan, a subsidiary of NewMed Energy in Bulgaria, have signed a contract for a drilling platform in the "KhanAsparuh" block. The deal is for 80 million dollars. Drilling will be done by Noble Corporation and will start in the fourth quarter of 2025. It will last 4 months as the vessel Globetrotter I will be used. The total budget of the exploratory drilling is approximately 170 million euros.

"Khan Asparuh" is an exploration block located in the western part of the Black Sea in Bulgaria, south of the "Neptun Deep" block in Romania, where gas has already been discovered, BTA reports.
