Two Swedish firefighting planes will remain in Bulgaria throughout August

The fire situation in the country remains complex, so the political debate about it should be constructive, not destructive. This was what Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said at the beginning of the government meeting. He thanked everyone who is fighting the fires. Zhelyazkov pointed out that in August, to control the fires, the state will operate with the existing equipment and with that under EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism. The planes from Sweden will be in Bulgaria during the entire month of August, the Prime Minister added.

The parliamentary opposition criticized the authorities' measures to fight the fires. According to the leader of "Vazrazhdane", Kostadin Kostadinov, 85 million euros were not used from last year's budget to purchase firefighting equipment. "We are in the same situation for the third year," the co-chairman of "We Continue the Change", Nikolay Denkov, said.
