A 21-year-old foreign national has been detained in Yambol for transporting illegal migrants. According to police reports, the arrest took place on Monday, 5 August at around 3:30 p.m. in the Georgi Benkovski neighbourhood.
The driver refused to stop for the police, ignoring their attempt to pull him over. While trying to escape, he crashed into a police car. No officers or civilians were injured in the accident.
There were five illegal immigrants in the car, none of whom had identification documents. Three of them were children. Further checks revealed that the car had been reported stolen and that the registration plates belonged to a different vehicle.
The children have been placed in a centre run by the State Agency for Refugees. The adult migrants were sent to a temporary accommodation centre for foreigners in Lyubimets.
