The largest arms manufacturer in Europe - Rheinmetall, will make 155 mm projectiles in Bulgaria. This is clear from the transcript of a government meeting. The investment in the state-owned armament factory VMZ-Sopot will be with a Bulgarian participation of 960 million euros. The money will be a loan under the European Security Mechanism for Europe - SAFE.

A joint venture will manage a plant for the production of gunpowder and 155 mm ammunition. According to the Minister of Economy Petar Dilov, negotiations on the project in recent months have been intense. Rheinmetall will transfer technologies and create new jobs in the construction of the new capacity. The projectiles will also be needed for the new Caesar howitzers, which Bulgaria will buy from France. So far, only two private companies in Bulgaria produce 155 mm projectiles according to NATO standards.
