President Rumen Radev has returned amendments to the State Property Act to Parliament for further discussion, the President’s press office announced. The changes were adopted on 31 July, the last working day before the National Assembly’s summer recess.
According to the President’s statement, the last-minute amendments would make it easier to sell property included in the so-called prohibition list under the Privatisation and Post-Privatisation Control Act. He noted that this would allow separate parts of an enterprise containing such property to be sold, with the necessity of these sales determined by the companies themselves. Radev therefore believes there is a potential risk of abuse and arbitrariness, which could ultimately harm the public interest
