Seventy fires have been registered in Bulgaria over the past 24 hours—half the number compared to previous days, reported Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov, Director of the Fire Safety and Civil Protection Directorate General. He described the situation as relatively calm, because the recent rainfall has helped reduce both the number and severity of the fires.

''It is noticeable that in recent years, the fire season starts earlier and ends later. We have no reason to assume that the danger is over or that we won’t face serious fires before the end of this season'', Alexener Dzhartov commented, as quoted by BTA. He added that there is still a possibility of new fires due to the upcoming rise in temperatures.

''There is no active burning within the perimeter of the fire in the Pirin Mountains'', said Engineer Ivan Rizov, Director of the Strumyani State Forestry Enterprise, in an interview for BTA. ''We continue to move deeper into the burned area to check for any remaining smoldering spots'', added Ivan Rizov.
