From today until August 24, the 15th Folklore Costume Festival Zheravna 2025 is taking place in the Dobromeritsa area.

Over 30 kaba bagpipers will kick off the event (8:00 p.m.), which every year gathers thousands of visitors dressed in traditional costumes, BNT reported. The program includes concerts by the National Folklore Ensemble "Bulgare", the "Strandzha" ensemble, "100 kaba bagpipers", etc. There will be open-air dance performances, firecracker games, folk wrestling, and competitions for authentic costumes.

The festival is held in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism. Participation in the festival is paid. Participants are dressed in folk costumes, and men can also wear voivode or chetnik clothing. Folk costumes traditional to other peoples and countries are also allowed.

The festival was born in 2008 at the idea of Hristo Dimitrov - producer, choreographer and director of the National Folklore Ensemble "Bulgare". The idea is for the participants to get closer to the way of life of Bulgarians from nearly 150 years ago.
