Regarding the epizootic situation related to the pox disease in sheep and goats, representatives of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency spoke with European experts from the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety, BNT reported. The possibility of implementing emergency protective vaccination as part of the control and prevention measures was discussed.

According to the EC representatives, vaccination should be a last resort, in combination with the measures provided for in European legislation. Issues related to the consequences for Bulgaria in terms of the disease, the movement of animals and products, as well as the specific conditions for rare and autochthonous breeds were discussed.

A meeting is also forthcoming with representatives of diplomatic missions of third countries, at which the potential trade consequences will be discussed. Based on these meetings, a decision will be made based on scientific data, professional analyses and the need to protect animal health and the economic stability of the sector.
