The Bulgarian government has approved an increase in the budget of the Ministry of Energy by 1.5 billion leva (770 million euros), Minister Zhecho Stankov announced after the meeting of the Council of Ministers. The funds are intended for the construction of units 7 and 8 with Westinghouse AP 1000 reactors, the modernization of units 5 and 6 of the Kozloduy NPP, the rehabilitation of the Chaira PWPP, where only one of the four hydro units is operating, investments in over 700 km of energy networks and networks of the gas operator.

Stankov emphasized that the energy sector has been "only a donor of funds for many years, including for the purchase of grain that Bulgarian citizens never saw," and the investments are now aimed at restoring the profitability of the sector.

BEH's overall investment plans exceed 15 billion leva in the medium term. The financing will not affect the budget deficit and is part of the updated budget forecast for 2025-2028, Stankov promised.
