The government has set Bulgaria’s poverty line at €390.63 for 2026, up €64.42, or 19.7%, compared with 2025. This increase will also raise the value of social benefits and financial support tied to the poverty line and provided under the Social Assistance Act, the Persons with Disabilities Act and the Child Protection Act.

According to the latest data, around 1.4 million people in Bulgaria, accounting for 22% of the population, currently live below the poverty line, according to reports by Bulgarian National Television (BNT).

Eurostat data for 2024 for comparison.
