Efforts to contain the wildfire in Rila National Park have continued for a tenth consecutive day, reported BNR’s correspondent in Blagoevgrad Keti Trencheva.
The most critical situation is on the northeastern front, where the wind is spreading flames through dry grass, junipers and fallen trees. Over 70 firefighters, Rila National Park employees and volunteers from municipal teams in Simitli and Blagoevgrad are battling the blaze and the winds that constantly change direction. The fire continues to spread in the "Chakalitsa" area above the White Rocks locality. The terrain is alpine and steep, and firefighting there is done mostly by hand.
Firefighting teams are currently searching for ravines with enough water to build a system to fight the fire at an altitude of 2,100 meters. A helicopter from Krumovo Air Base has arrived and is surveying the most critical areas, which will be targeted from the air.
