Everything we do today is influenced by the tragedy and suffering in Ukraine. This was stated by NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska to journalists after she and Bulgaria's Interior Minister Daniel Mitov participated in the opening of the Bulgaria 2025 exercise at the Erden airport in the Boychinovtsi municipality.
When asked whether the war in Ukraine was taken into account in the preparation of the exercise, Shekerinska replied:

"I want to condemn the recent deadly attacks in which Russia used over 800 drones against civilians and energy infrastructure. This shows that Russia is not interested in peace. At the meeting in The Hague, we stated clearly - we will support Ukraine politically and militarily. We call on all allies to increase their support - both political and military".

"This is the largest exercise organized in Bulgaria in the field of civil protection within NATO," said Minister Mitov. About 1,000 personnel from 29 NATO allies and 19 partner countries and organizations are participating in the exercise, the website of the Ministry of Defense reports. The focus is on crisis response - an earthquake, technological collapse, etc. will be simulated. The exercise will last until September 12.
