Bulgaria’s National Assembly fails to secure the necessary quorum for the third consecutive day

For the third consecutive day, Bulgaria’s National Assembly failed to secure the necessary quorum of 121 MPs to hold a session. Only 111 out of a total of 240 MPs were present in the plenary hall. The same happened on the previous two days. On Friday, National Assembly Speaker Natalia Kiselova didn’t even wait for more MPs to arrive and directly scheduled the next session for October 1. Thus, the entire working week of the parliament was lost.

Due to parliamentary delegations in Japan and France, the ruling party does not have the necessary quorum of 121 MPs. The opposition refused to register, arguing that ensuring the quorum is the majority’s responsibility. Speaking to the media, GERB leader Boyko Borisov assured that the absent MPs are returning to Bulgaria and that the parliament will be operational next week.
