An increasing number of Bulgarians travel abroad, Greece is the most-preferred destination

In August 2025, the number of trips abroad made by Bulgarians totalled 1,078,900, which is a 19.4% increase compared to August 2024, according to data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI). The largest numbers of trips abroad by Bulgarians were to Greece (314,800), Turkiye (286,700), Romania (77,900), Serbia (71.300), Germany (66,100), Italy (35.400), Austria (29,200), France (25,600), The Republic of North Macedonia (20,800) and the United Kingdom (19,600). The majority of trips (55.2%) were for holiday and leisure purposes.

Visits to Bulgaria by foreign nationals in August 2025 numbered 2,269,900, up 6.3% compared to the same month of the previous year. The most visits to Bulgaria were made by citizens of Romania (423,800), Turkiye (335,800), Germany (264,900), Ukraine (184.900), Poland (106.800), Serbia (97,200), Greece (77,900), the Netherlands (73,200), Czechia (72,800) and France (70,200).
