Effective penalties will be imposed, as of 8 October, on tradespeople who fail to abide by the provisions of the law on the adoption of the euro in Bulgaria.

The period of adaptation, in which the authorities only issue notices is about to expire.  The Commission for Consumer Protection and the National Revenue Agency are launching joint checks to verify the implementation of the law. This was made clear at a meeting of the euro mechanism convened by PM Rosen Zhelyaskov. Penalties will be imposed on companies which raise their prices without justification. According to the provisions of the law, all of the 256 established retail traders in groceries, drinks and medicines, with a turnover for the previous year of more than 10 million Leva, are obligated to post, to their pages, information about the prices of the commodities from the large consumer basket they sell in machine-readable format. The aim is for this information to be analyzed via the “How much it costs” platform " (Kolkostruva.bg). The platform was launched by the Commission for Consumer Protection today.
