In a letter to the Bulgarian Judges Association, European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kövesi announced the reasons for the disciplinary proceedings initiated against Teodora Georgieva, a Bulgarian representative in the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. The proceedings started due to “the seriousness of the possible violation, to protect the core values of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and its institutional reputation, as well as to ensure the effectiveness of its investigations.”

The investigation against Teodora Georgieva began several months ago over video recordings of an alleged meeting with wanted former investigator Petyo Petrov – Evroto, which took place at the “Eight Dwarfs” restaurant during the selection process for the Bulgarian candidate for European Prosecutor.

“Unquestionable independence is an essential requirement for the initial appointment of European Prosecutors and for their ability to perform their duties during their mandate,” Laura Kövesi wrote in the letter.

The Bulgarian representative in the European Public Prosecutor's Office has been suspended from office until the conclusion of the disciplinary proceedings.
