The European Flood Awareness System (EFAS) has issued a warning of expected complications in Bulgaria on 3 October. Interior Minister Daniel Mitov announced this at a meeting on the readiness of institutions to respond to the expected significant rainfall and snowfall on Friday.

According to data from the Ministry of the Environment, inspections have identified 507 sections of riverbed that are dangerously narrow. This information has been sent to emergency services and municipalities.

It has been decided that early warning systems such as BG-ALERT should be on high alert and ready to respond to the risk of flooding.

In the high mountain areas, the rain has already turned to snow. The Road Agency has warned drivers to use cars with the appropriate tyres and equipment, and to avoid risky manoeuvres.
