“All fears about the introduction of the euro will be overcome for month or two after January 1, 2026.” This was what Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev said at a meeting on the introduction of the euro in Gabrovo, quoted by BTA.

Tomislav Donchev said that the country’s entry into the eurozone was not an automatic path to prosperity, but an opportunity and if we took advantage of it, there would be results. According to him, fears and prejudices are expected because when we find ourselves in a new political reality there is always doubt about the new and a longing for the old. However, this is where the role of the state comes in, as its duty is to conduct an adequate information campaign. According to him, such a campaign is currently underway.

The Deputy Prime Minister described some of the debates on the topic of introducing the euro as “insane”. As for the claims that the country was losing financial sovereignty, he recalled that we have not had such sovereignty since 1997, when a currency board was introduced.
