Bulgarian director Stefan Komandarev will present his latest film, Made in EU (Bulgaria, Germany, Czech Republic, 2025), at Luxembourg’s CinEast festival, which celebrates cinema from Central and Eastern Europe, according to a post by the Bulgarian embassy in Belgium. The screening will take place on 19 October at 19:00 at Cinémathèque @Cercle Cité, after which there will be a discussion with Komandarev and producer Katya Trichkova.

Made in EU recently won the Grand Prize for feature film at the 43rd edition of Bulgaria’s Golden Rose Film Festival. The jury described it as an uncompromising work of cinema that captures the spirit of contemporary Bulgaria, reflecting its narrow-mindedness, fear and conformity while conveying hope to young audiences.
The film tells the story of Iva, a seamstress in a small town, and her son. Accused of triggering a local pandemic, Iva becomes a scapegoat, pursued by a system that has long profited from her labour. Shot across Haskovo, Dimitrovgrad, Madan, and Rudozem, the film features performances by Gergana Pletnyova, Todor Kotzev, Gerasim Georgiev-Gero, Ivaylo Hristov, Ivan Barnev, Anastasia Ingilizova, and Ovanes Torosian, BTA reports.
