Bulgaria expresses support for Lithuania following Russian incursion

Photo: Russian Ministry of Defence

"Bulgaria expresses strong solidarity with Lithuania following Russia's repeated violations of European airspace, a clear example of deliberate breaches of international law and the territorial integrity of our allies and partners," the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry wrote on social media platform X.

Bulgarian diplomats will carry on working with NATO allies to make the alliance stronger, the announcement also read.

On Wednesday evening, two Russian military planes entered Lithuanian airspace for 18 seconds, according to Reuters. Later, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda confirmed the incursion and said the foreign ministry would summon representatives of the Russian embassy to lodge a protest.

Russia's Ministry of Defence said its planes had flown over the Kaliningrad region and denied entering another country's airspace.
