By mid-2026, Bulgaria should be removed from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) “grey list” of countries with deficiencies in its anti-money laundering systems, Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev said in an interview with public service broadcaster BNT. Out of 25 criteria for removal from the list, 22 have been recognized as fulfilled, and Bulgaria has made significant progress, said Minister Georgiev.

The first of the remaining measures has already been implemented by the Ministry of Justice. In January, progress on the remaining three criteria will be reported, after which a request will be made to initiate the procedure for removing the country from the list, Minister Georgiev said. According to him, Bulgaria’s presence on the “Grey List” discourages foreign investors, slows GDP growth and creates difficulties for Bulgarian businesses.
