Unemployment benefits in Sofia go above the minimum wage

Unemployment benefits in Sofia continue to be above the minimum wage, according to the latest data from the National Social Security Institute. It is the highest in the country and is on average 1,145 leva (585.43 EUR). 

The lowest unemployment benefit is received by people without a livelihood in Kardzhali – 669 leva (342.05 EUR).

The average unemployment benefit for the entire country is 827 leva (422.84 EUR). Traditionally, the largest amount of unemployment benefit in the country is received by men in the capital city Sofia. According to the latest data, it is on average 1,260 leva (644.23 EUR), that is, it is higher than the minimum wage of 1,213 leva (620.2 EUR), which is planned for next year. The compensation for women without a livelihood in Sofia, according to the latest data, is 1048 leva (535.83 EUR). 

Unemployed men in Varna come next with a little over 1,007 leva (514.87 EUR) in average compensation.

In no other region in the country does the amount exceed 1,000 leva (500 EUR). The registered unemployed citizens with the right to compensation throughout the country total just over 58,000 people. They are 40% of all 148,000 people without a livelihood registered with the labour offices.
