The Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) has proposed the introduction of temporary restrictions on the movement of heavy trucks weighing over 12 tons along the country’s busiest motorways — Trakia, Hemus and Struma— during official holidays in 2026. The draft order, published for public consultation, aims to ease traffic for passenger vehicles and improve road safety, Nova TV reported.
According to the Road Infrastructure Agency, the measure will facilitate travel for the thousands of citizens travelling during the holiday periods. According to RIA, restricting heavy traffic will reduce the risk of accidents caused by improper overtaking and help prevent the formation of long lines of trucks.
