Bulgaria has climbed to 11th place in this year’s Digital Quality of Life 2025 (DQL) index published by Surfshark, up from 18th last year, BTA reported. The index evaluates countries’ digital well-being across five dimensions: fixed broadband affordability, internet quality, digital infrastructure, digital security, and — for the first time this year — artificial intelligence (AI).
Bulgaria lags behind Romania, which ranks sixth, but outperforms the United States, which is 16th. Finland tops the overall ranking, while the US leads the AI category despite a lower overall position.
The country performs best in fixed broadband affordability, but faces challenges in digital infrastructure, where it ranks 60th. Bulgaria ranks 21st in digital security, 41st in internet quality, and 49th in the AI category, which assesses countries’ attractiveness for AI investment.
