Farmers, consumers, scientists and financiers gathered in Plovdiv at the first congress on organic farming, entitled "In the Next Century." It became clear that Bulgaria had great potential for exports of organic products such as wheat, sunflower, soy and corn to Germany. Expected growth in demand for organic wheat in 2016 is about 30%. According to a report, the areas used for organic crops in Bulgaria grow by 8.9% each year. The global market has been expecting our products because the soil and climatic conditions of Bulgaria are truly unique, says academician Atanas Atanasov of the Joint Genome Center - Sofia. Our country is fourth in the world and first in Europe when it comes to export of herbs. A world-renowned manufacturer of baby foods has been willing to buy organic apples and tomatoes from Bulgaria. During the congress tobacco growers also received an offer for growing organic tobacco.
