The first tourist who has visited the Tsarevets Castle in Veliko Tarnovo on the very first day of 2017 is a software engineer from Japan. Hirose Mitara received as a present a bottle of wine from the limited selection of the Regional Museum of History plus a free guided tour of Bulgaria’s medieval capital. Outside Tsarevets Castle Hirose Mitara was welcomed by the director of the Veliko Tarnovo Regional Museum Ivan Tsarov. “It is calm in Bulgaria and terrorism is no direct threat as is the case in other European countries”, Tsarov said. In 2016, about 250,000 tourists visited Tsarevets which is the top heritage site in Veliko Tarnovo.
