The legislation package stipulating for new rules of refugee distribution, border protection and Dublin Regulation revision can be completed by the summer, Bulgarian MEP from the Party of European Socialists Iliana Iotova said in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio. Iotova argued that many governments would oppose the idea of the European Commission to centralize migrant flow management, because the refugee wave had for the time being been handled by countries to which they had had easiest access. As to the EU-Turkey deal she said “it could not in any way be a paragon of European politics” and pointed to its weaknesses. First, it is that the agreement envisages migrants crossing the Aegean thus excluding other outer border states like Bulgaria. Second, the deal transfers to much responsibility to Turkey. Third, there is little effort to combat human trafficking channels. Many migrants trying to avoid deportation to Turkey have been applying for asylum in Greece, Iliana Iotova explained and added that being outside the Schengen Area, Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia are absent from the new migration policies.
