The gas operators of Bulgaria and Slovakia, Bulgartransgas and Eustream, have signed in Sofia an agreement which caters for future gas supplies from Austria via Slovakia to the planned Balkan Gas Hub near Bulgaria’s Black Sea port of Varna. Supplies will be serviced by the Eastring pipeline. It was initiated by Slovakia after the suspension of the South Stream project and also includes Romania and Hungary. Its key purpose is to transport natural gas from West Europe to the Balkans. The project is among the priority ones for financing under the European Commission Juncker plan.
