The number of illegal crossings through the Turkish-Bulgarian border has decreased by 47 percent, the press center of the Bulgarian Interior Ministry has reported. This was due to special police operations, as well as due to the construction of border fences and the support of European border guards under the aegis of the Frontex Agency. During the first five months of 2016 Bulgarian border police detained a total of 1858 illegal immigrants. In the first five months of 2015 they were 3 535. During the past day four attempts for illegal crossings by a total of 50 immigrants were prevented, it was reported.
