New Bulgarian-Greek power grid becomes object of national and European significance

Photo: library

Bulgaria’s cabinet adopted a resolution that the new 400 KV electric transmission network between Maritsa East substation in Bulgaria and Nea Santa substation in Greece will become an object of national significance. The European Commission defined that project as a project of common European interest. It includes the construction of 4 power grids needed for the fulfillment of the high-priority electric corridor North-South. The construction of a new inter-system power grid with a total length of 122 kilometers on Bulgarian territory and 29 kilometers on Greek territory is a key element of that project. The power grid will have a capacity of 1,500 Megawatts and will connect Maritsa East and Santa Nea substations.
