In Varna, Vice President Margarita Popova commented the developments surrounding the referendum suggested by TV host Slavi Trifonov. Three questions from the plebiscite have been declared anti-constitutional by the Constitutional Court. Popova made a point that this has to do with the rights of citizens and institutions in democratic societies: “After all this is what institutions should do in a country: the people should ask questions and put demands, and the institutions should act as a corrective. This is how democracy works”, she said. Margarita Popova also thanked everybody supportive of the institution that she represents. In her view this is a signal that this institution protects the national interest.
