At a meeting in Baku of the Bulgarian-Azeri intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation, Bulgaria and Azerbaijan have signed a memo under which options will be discussed for joint supply of Azeri natural gas through the territory of Bulgaria to third countries in case the project for the "Balkan" gas hub near Varna is implemented. The two sides have agreed on stronger cooperation for the construction of the "Southern gas corridor" project and on Azeri gas supplies along it. Once again guarantees have been given for the contracted supply of 1 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Bulgargaz from the Caspian field "Shah Deniz II". Supplies should start by 2020, and now the sides have discussed the potential of supplies to Bulgaria after 2023 – from the new Azeri fields, through the interconnectors Greece-Bulgaria and Turkey-Bulgaria.
