Sofia denies Bulgaria has exported weapons to Syria since start of conflict

Daniel Mitov

Outgoing Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov stated that Bulgaria has not exported weapons to Syria since the start of the conflict in 2011 and has strictly been observing international standards.

Minister Mitov made this statement following information that Bulgarian arms have been found in Aleppo. After the rebels, whom Russia describes as Islamists were driven out of the town, large amounts of weapons were found, some of them manufactured in Bulgaria and this elicited a sharp reaction from the Russian foreign ministry.
