According to preliminary data of the Bulgarian National Bank, at the end of 2016, foreign investments in the Bulgarian economy totaled 682.8 million euros, which means a decline of 59.7 percent from a year earlier.

Throughout 2016 the growth rate of foreign investments has been slower in comparison to 2015. The main flows of foreign investments continue to come from offshore locations such as Luxembourg, as well as from countries with favorable tax legislation such as the Netherlands, where a number of subsidiaries of many companies from third countries that operate in Bulgaria are registered.
