Bulgaria has fulfilled two percent of migrant quotas

Bulgaria has fulfilled two percent of the EU quotas for accepting asylum seekers, indicate data presented at the European Commission today.

This country has accepted 29 migrants coming from Greece, with 310 applications having been submitted and the promise of accepting 831 people by the end of the year. No migrants coming from Italy have been accepted, though 140 applications have been submitted and the promise is to accept 471. 50 applications have been submitted by asylum seekers coming in from Turkey, though none have arrived in Bulgaria thus far.

The European Commission has called for redoubling the efforts to fulfill quotas, adding that few of the EU members have lived up to their promises fully. The EC calls on the EU countries to make up for the shortages of staff and equipment at the European border agency by the end of March.
