At a meeting in Sofia with British Minister of State for Europe and the Americas, Sir Alan Duncan, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva said that the United Kingdom was leaving the EU, but not Europe and that Bulgaria wanted to continue cooperation in fighting terrorism, as well as in the spheres of security, trade and economic relations.
The guest pointed out that Britain would become even more active in security and trade cooperation and pointed out that without citizens from other European countries some sectors of its economy would experience a serious shortage of labor. Expressing gratitude to the British Government for its support to the judicial reforms in Bulgaria, Minister Zaharieva said that Bulgaria would continue to rely on the UK not only in this sphere but also in its bid for joining the Schengen area.
