PM Boyko Borissov hailed his Albanian colleague Edi Rama for the adoption of the Minorities Act. According to Borissov, the guaranteeing of the Bulgarian minority’s rights would push further the EU integration of Albania as it will demonstrate a European manner of policy-making. In his turn Edi Rama stated that he saw the Minorities Act adopted as his duty and that he would put maximum efforts for a quick coverage of Albania’s European way.

Albania’s Parliament has restored a historic justice with its decision to recognize Bulgarian minority in Albania, Bulgaria’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva said earlier through the day. This is great news. We have put in a lot of efforts and I am thankful to the Albanian Parliament, this country’s Premier and to my Albanian counterpart, because we have restored historical facts, Minister Zaharieva went on to say. The official recognition of Bulgarian minority in Albania is a sign of a European way of thinking. Through safeguarding the rights of the minorities Albania proves that is ready to start EU accession talks. Initially, the Bulgarian minority was not in the draft project of that country and Albania was recognizing only 8 minorities. I would also like to thank the Bulgarian minority in Albania, because these people collected 3,000 signatures in support of our efforts within a month, Ekaterina Zaharieva further said.
