Three Sherpas and three Chinese rescuers continue to look for Bulgarian mountaineer Boyan Petrov today. Petrov has been missing for several days during an expedition in the Himalayas to climb the 8,000 m Shishapangma peak.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and this country’s diplomatic missions in Beijing and Delhi are in constant contact with 4 Chinese Ministries, the Tibetan Mountaineer Association and the Nepalese authorities. The competent authorities have assured that they have been doing their best to provide maximum assistance.
Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov also confirmed that all efforts are being made to save climber Boyan Petrov. "We keep constant communication with his relatives, as well as with the authorities in Nepal and China, and I have called on the Chinese ambassador to help in providing a helicopter route if it could fly that high," Borisov said, hoping Petrov would be found alive and uninjured.
Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva has informed that a suitable helicopter has been found. She pointed out that China was fully co-operating and specified that 6 professional rescuers were sent despite the bad weather conditions, so they could reach camp 2.
