Minister of Education Krasimir Valchev stated that despite the shortage of teachers, the school year in Bulgaria will get off to a normal start.

In Sofia there are 650 teacher vacancies, though the teacher shortage is most serious in small towns and in villages. Efforts are aimed at recruiting teachers who have retired, or teachers who combine several similar subjects. The teaching profession is not attractive to young people. Steps are being taken to increase salaries, but it is a slow process, Minister Valchev said.
