After a three hour tense debate the Bulgarian MPs voted to relieve Valeri Simeonov as Deputy Premier for Economic and Demographic Policy. Mariana Nikolova was appointed the new Deputy Premier Responsible for Economic and Demographic Policy. 116 Bulgarian MPs voted in favor, 62 MPs voted against and no MPs abstained. The draft resolution for cabinet reshuffles was presented to the Bulgarian MPs by Bulgaria’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense Krasimir Karakachanov. On November 16 Valeri Simeonov resigned after nearly one month of protests of mothers of children with disabilities who were insulted by Simeonov’s words “screaming women with pseudo ill children”. Formerly, Mariana Nikolova served as Valeri Simeonov’s chief de cabinet.

Mariana Nikolova announced that among the main priorities in her work will be increase of the incomes of the population. She would continue the work of her predecessor's when it comes to the management program, but suggested that it was possible to change the areas of responsibilities as a deputy prime minister. "It is the task of the Prime Minister to outline the sphere of responsibility of the new Deputy Prime Minister. If it is preserved, my priority will be economy, demographic policy, and healthcare," Nikolova said.
