Under to the Social Security Code that has come into effect in Bulgaria, more than 100,000 people will be added to the number of people receiving monthly permanent disability allowances.

Last year, under the social integration law, which has now been repealed, their number was fewer than 500,000, whereas in 2019, disability allowances will be paid out to over 600,000 people. The amount will depend on the degree of disability, and is set down with reference to the poverty line to Bulgaria. The sum allocated from the national budget for disability pensions and for financial support to people with varying degrees of disability has been increased to 218 million euro, Biser Petkov, Minister of Labour and Social Policy announced in parliament.
