On April 10, several hundred people started a spontaneous protest in the town of Gabrovo to express their indignation at the assault and beating of a store employee by three Roma. The case triggered an emergency meeting at the Council of Ministers of Deputy Prime Minister Krassimir Karakachanov with Ministry of Interior officials. Karakachanov thanked the police for their fast reaction, which prevented protesters from taking the law into their hands and punishing the attackers, who proved to have previous convictions. The situation in the town is under control and no new provocations are expected, Karakachanov said after the meeting. Investigation of the case continues under the guidance of the prosecutor's office.
