Angel Rusev earns silver medal at pre-Olympic weightlifting tournament in Iran

Angel Rusev earned silver medal in the Men’s total at the pre-Olympic weightlifting tournament in the Iranian city of Rasht. The Bulgarian athlete finished with 110 kilograms in the snatch event and 147 kilograms in the clean and jerk event in the 61 kilo category and won the silver medal with a total of 257 kilograms.

Angel is eighteen years old. He became a European champion in the 55 kilograms competition at the EWF Senior Weightlifting Championships in Batumi held in the spring of 2019. Later, he became U20 European Weightlifting Champion at the EWF Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championship in Bucharest in October last year. The weightlifting tournament in Iran is part of the qualifications for the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
